Are you truly free?

We recently celebrated our country's independence. Many see it as the day we celebrate our nation's freedom. Independence was declared (by the Continental Congress) on July 4, 1776, but it wasn't until Britain surrendered at the end of the Revolution in 1783 that independence was achieved. Many gave their lives to protect us from living the lives of slavery to foreign countries. Which is what this day is truly about. We are free but the struggle to remain free still goes on.
In the 60's the fight on our own soil to end slavery and bring freedom made a great stride when racial equality was written into or laws. The Civil Rights Act of was written into law July 2, 1964. It is a landmark civil rights and US labor law in the United States that outlaws discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, People were seen as equal no matter what race or origin. We are free but the struggle to remain free still goes on.
In AD 30 the most significant battle for freedom was won. One man, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ died so that we could be free from sin. Free from living a life for sin and the punishment of sin. But sin still tries to regain a footing in your life. We are free but the struggle to remain free still goes on.
But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law, that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of children. And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!” So you are no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. However at that time, not knowing God, you were in bondage to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?
Galatians 4:4-9
