Are we trying to become gods?

Recently some friends and I were talking about abortion. We agree how wrong it is to perform abortions. God has created a life and we are wrong to end it. Our discussion went on to assisted suicide. Most agreed it is wrong for someone to take their own life. God has determined when our lives will end and once again we see it as wrong to take a life. But are we going to the extreme in the other direction? Are some of the steps we take to prolong life putting us in the place of God in determining when life ends? Artificial organs, transplants, machines keeping us alive? Are we putting ourselves in the place of God in creating life with cloning, test tube babies, work done to create life?
