Living Stones

We make up the spiritual Body of Christ and together we are known as

the church.

God calls us “living stones.”

In Peter's time, large stones were used to build many of the buildings.

These stones were cut at stone quarries to be used to build the

temples of that era. The remains of many of these ancient temples

still stand today.

The builders rejected many of these stones. Left behind, rejected

these stones were considered useless.

But these useless stones, whom men saw as imperfect, God has now

made perfect through His Son. For He has said of His Son beforehand,

“Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who

believes on Him will by no means be put to shame” (Isaiah 28:16). God

has made Jesus to be the cornerstone of the church. For He is the

cornerstone that the world rejected.

We who believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ are a chosen generation. We are God’s own special people, created to proclaim the praise of God. For we are like the stones that were rejected and left in the darkness of the world. But God has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

We must remember that Christians are not perfect. We still live in a body of flesh and we will occasionally. But when we fall into sin, we don't remain in sin. Ww turn from the sin (repent) ask for forgiveness, and know that our Lord will forgive us. One of the things that will open a Christian up to falling into a sin, is complacency. When we neglect our responsibility to believe the Word we leave ourselves unguarded, and that is when Satan strikes.

The point is this: any believer can fall into any type of sin if that believer thinks that his or her actions are too small, they are only for this one time, or they can handle this.

Don't become more aware of your works, than the finished work of Christ. Don't become self-righteous, believing your works can keep you from falling into sin.

God has called you out of darkness.

Don't become so focused on the darkness of sin that you can not reflect the light of God.

The Light is more powerful than the darkness.

Have faith in what Christ has done. Stop fighting the impulse to use drugs or drink alcohol. In doing so, what you are saying is that you can save yourself. With that kind of attitude, you make Christ’s death of no effect for you. Rather than fight to overcome your addiction, rest in the Lord. Realize that you are first and foremost, a living stone.

Start telling yourself, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ; I don’t (fill in the blank).” Every time you get the urge to indulge in your vice say, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ; I don’t (fill in your vice).” Don’t just think it, say it!

According to your faith, it will be done for you.

You are the righteousness of God in Christ. If God has declared you righteous, why are you trying to show yourself righteous by your works?

“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”
