Revelation 2:1-7 deeper

1 “To the angel of the assembly in Ephesus write:

“He who holds the seven stars in his right hand, he who walks among the seven golden lamp stands says these things:

Here Jesus is seen tirelessly walking with  His bride the church(lampstand from Revelation 1:20).

2 “I know your works, and your toil and perseverance, and that you can’t tolerate evil men and have tested those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and found them false.

Jesus is expressing His omniscience(the state of having total knowledge, knowing everything). We are called to bear the burdens of our brothers, not bear the evil of false brethren who try to lead you away from following the truth of God.

3 You have perseverance and have endured for my name’s sake, and have not grown weary.

4 But I have this against you, that you left your first love.

Our first love is Christ. Here the church is being told they have left Jesus. This doesn't necessarily mean that they have left to follow another "god" or "spirit". This could have been replacing their warm love for Jesus with a form of lifeless orthodoxy that follows only with outward appearances.

5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works; or else I am coming to you swiftly, and will move your lampstand out of its place unless you repent.

Not just feel the first feeling you had, but let the works flow from the love that you have. Or Jesus is coming in judgment. Here He moves the lampstand, not destroys it. If you fail to follow Jesus or obey Him, he will use another to carry out His plan,

6 But this you have, that you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

Don't jump to a wrong conclusion here. Jesus says He "hates the works", not hatred of the men themselves.

7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of my God.
