Matthew chapter 8

In this chapter we see Jesus healing many people. Today it doesn't seem like it would be a big deal for Jesus to be walking among the people who were sick. Our doctors, nurses, EMTs work with the sick daily. But in Jesus's day when you were sick, you were quarantined because others were afraid they would get the disease. And rightly so.

But Jesus had power over the disease. He could touch the person and they would be healed.

I know we've heard it a million times in bible school. We hear it on TV. radio and the internet.

But have you really heard it? We all have a disease.

Yeah, I know you're thinking, "I have a cold, and he said that at random."

No. All of us have inherited the same disease. And unless you have met Jesus and asked him to take it away from you, you still have it. This disease is called sin. And like disease damages the body, sin damages body and soul. And like many diseases, we cannot defeat sin alone.

I see this chapter showing us in a way we could understand, how Jesus heals us in ways we can't see. And what we need to do.

All these people came to Jesus. We could see this as repentance. This is seeing that we are "diseased" and seeing that we can't fight it on our own.We must change our attitude from ignoring and doing our own thing, to seeking God. We must acknowledge that God ‘s word and ways are right and we are wrong. We must regret the things we did as a result of the old attitude and embrace God's WAY. This is trusting in the righteousness and love of God. We must repent.

Next, we must receive the Gift of the HOLY SPIRIT. Jesus promised the HOLY SPIRIT to all those who believe. The HOLY SPIRIT will "teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance" of the kingdom of God.

Prayer is talking with God. The following prayer is a guide that takes you through these first three steps. There is nothing magic about these words. You may use your own words but these words are a good guide. Please pray:

You are our Creator, and you are our Healer. You are Jehovah Rapha - the God who heals. You have compassion for us in our sicknesses and our pain.

Your mercy is from everlasting to everlasting.

I come to you this day, asking you to heal my body. I ask you to go into each cell and correct whatever is wrong. Father, bring healing, harmony, and unity to every cell, every organ, and every system of my body. I ask that you would heal the root of any pain that I experience. Thank you that you are repairing everything that has to do with my body.

Right now I am giving you my fears and my worries. I pick up the shield of faith and draw confidence that you are working on my behalf this day.

                                                                                    Amen
