What is it like to live under God's rule?

What kind of king is He?

How does God's kingdom compare with the kingdom of this world?

The first verses in this chapter contain what has been called the greatest preaching by the greatest preacher who ever lived.

Each of these beatitudes begins with a timeless promise of reward. Here blessed is used to show approval. Blessed means more than to be happy. Happiness is an emotion that depends on external circumstances. To be blessed is to experience the joy of being approved by God.Those who exhibit these characteristics may not be honored on earth, but their eternal reward will be great.

Have you been to a fast food restaurant lately? Notice the foods you have to choose from. You can have it your way.

That's not what these beatitudes are for. They are not for you to choose which or when you will follow . These are a package deal.

It’s easy to make the mistake of saying, “I’m just not merciful” or “I’m just not a peacemaker.” We can’t pick the easy ones and ignore the difficult ones.
