Joshua Chapter 2
God honors true faith.....
from anyone, regardless of race or religious background.
Could God save a Buddhist prostitute in Vietnam?
Would God save a Muslim drug dealer in Iran?
A thief in the agnostic country of North Korea?
Your next door neighbor? You?
Yes, you. Do you think you don't need a savior?
Sin
Three times over Rahab is referred to as “the harlot,” and the Hebrew term zoonah and the Greek word porne have at no time meant anything else but “harlot”—a woman who yields herself indiscriminately to every man approaching her.
What sins have you committed?
Scheme
First of all, idolater though she had been, she had an understanding of the sovereignty of the true God. She accepted the two men to have been sent by the one true God.
Have you known of Jesus, God's son and the Holy Spirit, sent by God to you?
Sacrifice
To hide spies was a crime punishable by death. In spite of the sacrifice involved she told the spies, “I will not betray you."
Do you have the faith not to betray those that have come to save you? Regardless of those around you that think differently?
Sign
Rahab received from the spies the promise that when they returned to her country, along with Joshua and his army, that she and her family would be spared alive. While her sin had possibly estranged her from her loved ones, she was concerned about their safety as well as her own, She received a scarlet rope to tie at her window. This was for assurance that those in her house would be saved.
The scarlet rope is a type of the blood of Christ that has been given you for your safety when Jesus returns to reclaim his land. Have you invited your family and friends to partake of the protection this will offer them?
Salvation
She saved the spies not out of human pity, but because she knew that they were servants of the Lord. In turn, she was saved. The spies she had hidden brought her, and her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had out of her doomed house, and made them secure at the camp of Israel. Brought out of an accursed city, and from her own sins which were as scarlet, Rahab is a fitting illustration of another miracle of divine grace, namely, the calling forth of His church out of a godless, Gentile world.
You too will be saved by having the faith that God is able to reclaim His world and that Jesus is your savior. Will you bring your family with you?
Status
She had been taken from the sinners and placed among the saints. Her remarkable faith was a sanctifying faith leading her to a pure life and honorable career.
Jesus is returning to reclaim his land and people. Do you have the faith to believe that God is willing and able to save you?
“By faith, the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not when she received the spies with peace”
Hebrews 11:31
There was not only faith in her heart that God would be victorious. But she also had an assured peace when she hid the spies that her deliverance from destruction would be taken care of. She knew the "rest" of faith.
Have you found the "rest" of faith?
